While I have never rovered in a Jeep CJ, I doubt I would pick one
specifically as a rover vehicle. There just isn't enough space in
one and attaching a roof antenna rack would be a pain.

The question comes down to what basis do you use to pick a vehicle.
Are you primarily going to look at rover use? What about other uses
the vehicle would get? Kids, pets or pulling a trailer etc? How
important are style and looks to you? Only you can make these decisions.

Any vehicle _could_ work as a rover vehicle. I have even rovered in
a compact car. If I was basing my decision heavily on the use as a
rover vehicle I would buy some form of a minivan. Lots of room for
a roof rack and an operating desk in the back. Some even get decent
fuel milage!

On the other hand if you want a Jeep CJ model then that is what you
want. I do think you will sacrifice "roverability" as well as other
things like safety, handling, creature comforts and you will probably
pay too much to insure it. On the other hand you will have much better
then average off road performance if this is something you actually
need....
