Dan,

Don't feel like the lone ranger here. Chase and I wound up having to work
Friday night @ the HS supervising a bunch of teenagers running concessions
stands for the JROTC booster club. We had an orienteering competition I had
agreed to work Sat morning that turned into a full day event. I didn't have
time earlier in the week to get the car or antenna's prep'd during the week
(work) so at 9 PM last night Chase and I decided we'd look at the dx
forecasts and how things may be running on the clusters and decided instead
of heading out last night we'd wait until this AM and see how we felt ...
(he was tired too). At 5:30 this AM I made an executive decision to just
throw in the towel for this contest, my old tired body just wan't going to
do one more thing.

I was going to use my FT-100 so the rig wasn't the problem but trying to get
the SWR down on my "brand new for the contest" portable yagi's was a killer
... never did get it down much below 2:1 on 144 or 430. I think's I'm going
to go the route of Jacob, K8JWT, and build me a WA5VJB "cheap yagi" for each
band. My search for a used cargo van for a "permanent rover set up" is now
kicking into high gear. I can't afford to keep the loops on the vehicle all
the time because the nature of my need of the car the rest of the time.
