Well after last weeks demise of the 6meter beam, 2meter Chaep Yagi, and the
PS/2meter radio I was at a loss for a 6meter antenna.
***IDEA***
Since I had bought 5pounds of the welding rods used to build the Cheap Yagis
with, why not use them for the elements of a 6meter QUAD!!!
So far I have the reflector and driven element built and they look really
good! Better than anything I have made before. For construction simplicity,
I made the 4 corner pieces out of full length pieces (36") with a 90degree
bend in the middle. Then for the inner space pieces I cut 4 pieces to length
+2" for a 1" overlap at each end for soldering.
So far they seem somewhat rigid in either a diamond mounting or a sqare
mounting. For initial testing I am supporting them in a sqare fashion using
a 1"x2" furring strip with the spreader running horizontally to the middle
of the side element segments. They move a little in a stiff breeze, but
other than that they are very steady.
Hope to have a 2element prototype up for this weekend during the contest,
will only be running from the home QTH but should be able to see if the idea
flys or dies???
Sorry for the rambling, but when I get a idea that works good I just can't
help myself...
Ultimate goals of antenna project is a 5 to 7 element quad for home use and
to perfect a breakdown method for spreaders so as to make a 5 element
version for hilltoppping/contesting.
