I've used it as a liason rig a couple of times. It worked OK. Only problem I 
had was on Mt Washington FN44 during the 10 G Cumulative. I had to run 
without the internal preamp. When it was on, the front-end caved in (S 7 
noise).

I haven't used either the 706 or 100 on a mountain top, so I can't comment 
there.
