A fellow ham friend of mine is interested in trying out the VHF SSB/CW ops
for the first time but doesn't want to spend big buckss to do it.

He has about 4 or 5 HF-only rigsas he loves his CW contesting as well as
contesting in general.

He was asking me about 2-meter transverters and I mentioned the DEMI model
for around $400.00 new and he said HECK NO! Also said he might find one
used for less, which he isn't much for used eqipment as I know he has gotten
burned a few times by used stuff.

Finally I mentioned the TenTec 1210 2-meter transverter as a kit or built
for $150.00/$250.00 respectively and he said that was more to his liking
money wise.

Since I haven't played around very much with the TenTec transverter, since
mine was stolen, he was hoping I could find out what the general feelings
are about them from the group. He understands that the DEMI unit is better
and I feel he will end up with one eventually, but he just doesn't want to
spend that much initially.

So let me know what you think???

PS: Also, had seen a web page in the past with a mod. to improve the RX
figures of the TenTec 1210, but have been searching for it for about 3 days
and can't seem to find it again. Anyone know where it is now???
