Chase and I are going to be in Atlanta the w/e of the Jan VHF contest for
the Interscholastic Orineteering Championships. We're going to try and get
some operating time in between the competitions so we'll be operating from
the car with a FT-100. I want to take an additional antenna to get up in
the trees from the park, Sam, N4MAP, has assured me there are plenty of tall
enought trees, so I was considering a dipole however I'm thinking of
building a light 2 ele (driven + dir) yagi instead. I want this config
since I'm not concerned about F/B ratios much plus I can hear & work off the
back side of the beam better than with the driven + reflector config.
We're going to be limited on space for antennas and I figure we can drag the
yagi up into the trees with a light rope and steer it with nylon twine.
Does anyone have any specific ideas about a two element antenna, yagi or
quad, that may serve us better?
Good luck in the contest.
