Then I would consider making a dedicated 12VDC set-up that can be moved from
a battery to a PS via a large polarized DC power connector.
I'm getting a new car in a couple of months and am putting a large capacity
battery in a boat box in the trunk. I've got to investigate which of the RV
dual battery splitter chargers I want but am going to go that route for
charging the radio battery. These splitters are designed to charge the
vehicle primary battery first then the aux battery. That way when you set
somewhere and run down your aux battery you can still start your vehicle.
Once started it will ensure that your primary is charged and then the aux.
I'm also going use some form of a single large quick disconnect 12VDC
connector at the battery that I can unplug the radios from the battery and
plug directly into another jack that will be already on my switching power
supply.
