Sorry, my mistake Neil. I saw the announcement on the Yaesu list and joined
from the link in the email. Glad to be here!
I am a list owner too and suggest you sign up for
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GroupManagersForum and
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ygroups_moderators
they will help you avoid some of the problems of being a list owner and give you
a place to ask for help if needed.
Anyhow, my nearest store has gone so far down hill that I hate to go in there
anymore! There was a great manager there at one time and it made all the
difference in the world. Here is the latest craziness at this store that I went
through, I posted on another list recently:
"...and now for another exciting adventure of "You've Got Returns - We've Got
Ways To Aggravate You". It can be a bad experience dealing with a RShack store
but a RShack store with an attitude is the pits. I lost a great local mgr here
due to his move and now the same store makes you feel like a crook if you want
to return something (It's not like I haven't spent a small fortune at this
RShack!)
I walked in and told them right off the bat that I was returning it (an IR/RF
remote with a separate IR transmitter, #15-2117) for 2 reasons: one, that the
price had been lowered and the second was that I kept getting a 'memory full'
error and wanted to try another unit. They told me that customers didn't know
how to program the remote. I told them I still wanted a refund and wanted to
try another unit. Then they tried to tell me it wasn't within 30 days... it
was. I had to challenge them to count the days before they would admit it! I
brought another unit back to the counter and got a sarcastic "Oh, so you want to
exchange it after all", ARRRGH! I repeated that I wanted a refund to get the
lower price and wanted to try another unit. That's when the mgr and salesman
both stared at me in disgust and told me it was still $49. I knew they were
lying because I had already looked the price up on the RShack website... web,
in-store and 800# price was/is $29.99. In fact, I had the printout in my pocket
but not wanting to make them out more of the fools that they were already acting
like and knowing they would only look at me as if I was this horrible
trouble-maker customer, I left it in my pocket. I know what you're thinking and
at one time I would have handled it differently but when you get older and have
heart problems along with several other medical problems, it just gets to be too
much to fight some of this nonsense.
Anyhow I just demanded a refund and forgot about buying another remote that day.
Two days later (today) I was passing the store, knowing that another store
nearby was out of the units I thought "why not". I stopped in again and brought
a new unit to the counter... great, the same lady manager and salesman were
there, I was hoping for a better crew. Would you believe the first words out of
the salesman's mouth were "Oh, so there wasn't anything wrong with the other one
to begin with"... ARRRGH! I kept my cool (with the Lord's help) and replied
"Well, I kept getting this memory error but at $29.99 it really doesn't matter
to me, they're 29.99 now". I could tell by his expression that he already knew
this bit of information. Anyhow, he rang it up and I got out of there. The
good news, I have my remote at $29.99 - the bad news, I still have to deal with
"The customer comes last" crew at my local RShack. Hopefully, there will be a
change of regime soon."

Well Marty, somehow you must have signed up for this list. Maybe you were trying
to sign up for a list above or below my list and you accidentally clicked my
list? This is, by the way, the RadioShack reflector.
