[RadioShack] HTX-10 issues

A nice little unit, but is shares a common problem with all of the low cost
10 meter rigs I have used (Uniden 2510, Ranger). The rcvr overloads too
easily. When used mobile on heavy trucking routes, the CBers will knock out
the rcvr. Sometimes it just quiets, sometimes you hear splatter. Thought it
was bad CB signals until I had a $39 midland CB radio in the same car. The
midland worked just fine in the CB band when the truckers transmitted while
the HTX-10 was desensed. All the posted mods for these things are on how to
get 50 watts out of them. I'm happy with 25--just need to hear everyone!

Anyone have any suggestions?

Also, I understand the need to restrict TX on CB, but there is no reason why
it couldn't be made to listen to CB, but aparently extended coverage is
specifically blocked out of the RS version. The European versions
(Albrecht?) will cover a wider range.

I thought the 1 KHz resolution was going to be a problem, but I find it
easier thasn the Uniden 2510 which goes to 100 Hz.

Still excellent for $50. I was even thinking of one for actual price, but
couldn't justify as I already had the Uniden. --Mike, WV2ZOW
