[Racal] 3701 connectors

Hi Lee.

 

The connectors are 64 pin DIN type 41612.  I bought a plug and socket from
RS components along with a couple of bits of vero strip board.  If you put
the strip board back to back with the copper strips facing outwards you can
solder the connectors straight onto the stripboard.  I covered the assembly
with a piece of large diameter heatshrink sleeving.  The arrangement worked,
but it was difficult to get probes onto the boards while they were vertical.
I made enquiries into getting some 64 way ribbon cables made up.  One
company quoted £120 each (= USD $180), but I found another company in the UK
who supplied me with a couple of samples free of charge.
