[Racal] About an RA6790 battery

Recently this was discussed when I thought I had found the 'right'
replacement battery at Mouser. Then a little while back, I obtained the best
AA-cell holder I have ever seen. It is literally a nice plastic box with a
cover. I have been getting a number of items from a certain Chinese
electronics house (SKT_FLYER) on ebay. Mostly I have been getting 12V
multi-LED (white) boards ranging from 12 to 48 LEDS and VERY bright. He also
has battery holders. If you watch for "Ending Soonest" some serious bargains
can be had. This battery box for 2 AA cells cost $1.01 delivered (because
the starting bid was $0.01 w/postage of $1.00 and no one bid on it but me)!
You can get 4-cell cases for ~ the same $$$, and just as good.

 

Anyway, here's the plan: 2 NiMH rechargeable cells (I know I OUGHT to use
straight NiCads but in this case what I have is NiMH) as the backup battery
in the '6790. That voltage (~3.4VDC) sound OK to y'all?
