[Racal] RA6790/GM battery

A little while back, someone mentioned a number for a Varta replacement NiMH
battery available from Mouser for the RA6790/GM. Not any longer. None in
stock, none expected. So, since there was a very similar battery listed
(same 150mA 2.4V) I went ahead and ordered all $20+ (delivered) of it-and
they only had the one unit. Later, I realized I might have been pretty dumb:
I cannot think of a single reason I couldn't take a 2 AA-cell holder, put 2
1.2V NiMH batteries in it, wrap the entire thing in plastic electrical tape,
and wire it in. Can anyone find a flaw in that? Would've been cheaper, and
probably a better battery.
