Hello, I have a couple of Racal RA 17's (an L and a C3) and am curious if I
can use a Wiltron 910D sweep generator for the 40 mHz IF alignment. I found
a mention of this generator on Keith's racal site, but there is no info
there and no way to contact him from the site.

****Ross and the list,if the sweeper you have is capable of presenting the
39.00,39.35,40.00,40.65 and 41.00 MHz markers, there's no reason why you
shouldn't be able to use it to sweep the 40 MHz bandpass filter.I have no
knowledge of this sweeper,I assume it requires a separate detector. It is
possible to use a passive detector and achieve almost acceptable results
however if the Wiltron does not have one,you should ideally use a log
amplifier fed from the detector so that the skirts can be correctly
aligned. It is absolutely essential that the in and out leads be kept away
from each other and be as short as possible to prevent the possibility of
regeneration.
For your information, the RA117 has an identical filter and the EMERS
manuals E804 contains a detailed description of the method for sweeping the
filter.
Any questions,just ask!
