G'dy... thanks to those  who pointed me in the direction of  mica caps.
Advice  again please .... the RA-117 now  APPEARS to be  aligned at the
front end, but all band positions nominated in the  manual procedure at the
HIGH frequency end- say 8MHz when doing the 4 - 8 range , show nil or little
change whe adjusting the  variable  trimmer. In this case C 235.
All ranges behave the  same with nothing noticeable when adjusting the
appropriate  trimmer.
IS this normal?
Problem 2... The IF appears to have been got at. Gain and meter indication
of an unmodulated signal drops way down  in steps as one switches from 13kHz
thru to 0.1 kHz. Is this indicative of improper alignment or  worse.?
Bandwidth appears to be very sharp at 0,1 , 0.3 and 1.2 kHz --- hasn't been
measured yet tho' .
