Hi Martin,

Check the Tantalum capacitors on the CPU board. What you describe sure
sounds like a battery problem but since you replaced them, the only other
issues I have seen like this is with the Tantalums.

Check the voltages at the CPU board.

Richard

Subject: [Racal] Racal RA6790/GM issue

Greetings to all,

I'm seeking suggestions/inputs/etc. for a recent issue that's cropped up
on my RA6790/GM

These days when powering it up, I get a frequency display of all zeros,
with very little displayed on either right hand or left hand displays
(I think the filter bandwidth shows zeros too).

When this occurs, the machine is dead, no tuning possible, no self-check
possible, and no sound.

After a few minutes, it seems to return to normal.

I don't think it's a battery issue; I replaced the onboard battery a
couple of years ago with two n-cell nicads in a separate battery holder
back where the ISB board is located when it's fitted. (Both cells check
out to be ~ 1.3 volts). Problem occurs both when batteries are fitted
and when they are not.

Any and all help most appreciated.
