[Racal] RA1792 Frequency Standard

I recently acquired a Type 9442 5MHz standard for my 1792.
I am perplexed as to how to get it going correctly, though I have proved it
working to spec and have connected it into the RX.
I fitted it with the f rtaining screws, and powered it up.
It produces 935mV pk to pk at 5.000049 MHz off load.
On plugging it into the spare coax plug (intended for the purpose) I get
receiver fault light up on the front panel display and I can hear slips in
the audio, on all modes when receiving signals...probably beats between the
new standard and the TXCO in the BFO / synth box...
I was under the impression that the presence of the high stability standard
signal (quoted as >800mVpk tp pk, in the maintenance manual) usurped the
TXCO (The RX has been running on this until now).
So, am I missing something?
At the moment I have cabled the output of the hi stab standard to the
external reference input jack, and switched S2 to "EXTERNAL", but I cannot
believe that this is the correct "official" method of connection. The RX
performs fine with the connection so- arranged.
Any help appreciated.
