[Racal] IF out on a RA6790/GM

Stephan,
The standard RA6790/GM only has a 455 kHz IF output, with a bandwidth
determined by the IF filter in use. There are convertors available to
change this to 100 kHz (and other lower frequencies) if required.
There are modified 6790 first mixer boards that have a splitter and an
output at the first IF of 40.455 MHz, and there are convertors to change
this to 21.4 MHz for use with Racal Spectral Display Units, but the
bandwidth is still limited by the first IF filter, normally 20 KHz.
These come up on the online auction place from time to time. The Racal
SDUs need a pretty big signal to function, Racal receivers that have
this output have a fair bit of gain in the path, and they are really
designed for VHF / UHF use, the bandwidths are not suitable for HF use
anyway.
I have never seen any 10.7 MHz output units for either the RA6790/GM or
the UK RA1792. The optional panadaptor units that were made for the
1792 give a broadband IF output at 455 kHz.
Regards
