For what it is worth I have an 5820-99-580-1597 (gov number for RA 117)
which fully meets the original specification. I have not changed
anything other than parts identified as causing a problem and you could
count these on one hand with the exception of vacuum tubes (valves).
I have realigned the whole receiver using modern test equipment. I
worked on these receives 40 years ago, test equipment like an HP8753
network analyzer makes alignment much easier. However unless you are
very confident be very cautious of realigning the filters.

Can anyone give me any tips or info on the reliability of components in
the
older RACAL receivers...I'd like to know what someone else may have
found
regarding the Paper Caps , resistors etc..
***** Replace all the paper caps, one and all.
So far, what I've found
is the resistor values are lower than spec..
ie., a 1k resistor measures 912 ohms... a 15k resistor reads 14.2k
**** Leave them, they will be OK.
and he tried to use 1/2 of a 6AL5 dudl diode to replace the EA76
subminiature AGC rectifier
**** An EA76 is exactly the same diode as 1/2 6AL5,both are high
perverance
diodes.
