[Racal] RA17 L55 cores

I am working on a RA17 which is showing continual drift in the second =
VFO. Having eliminated all components bar the coil, L55 and the tuning =
capacitor in the 2nd VFO box, I feel the problem might be the coil =
itself.=20

Another list member said he had this problem, and eliminated it by =
changing out L55 complete.

QUESTION 1 : Has any one else had the same problem? (might also affect =
RA117)

QUESTION 2 : Does any one know if Ferrite or iron dust cores can go =
unstable with age?  (other than mechanical breakage of the slug or its =
mount)
