Troubleshooting procedures to the component level obviously can't be
documented completely in modern radios. And even if they were, as an old
tech I knew once said - procedures are written for known failures.
That said, Racal's 6790 manual is written for board swappers, pure and
simple. It is missing all kinds of basic information, like alignment set
points. It was probably written to satisfy the minimum contractual
requirements for the military. I have my doubts whether the 6790 was
designed for real depot service like Tobyhanna used to do to R-390(A)
modules. I suspect that circuit boards all went back to Racal, or were
just tossed and replaced.
