Dan, PCB's are considered a hazardous waste. The government and large
companies MUST spend millions and millions of dollars a year to assure that
none spills or is disposed of in an improper manner. Many radios have PCB
caps installed, this was the norm until sometime in the 1970's when PCB's
filled devices had to stop being manufactured. I have worked for the local
power company for 28 years and one of our biggest ongoing projects is to rid
our system of all PCB's. It's to bad that when removing these caps that
people get "heavy handed" and damage the radio. There are many WEB sites
that have information on restoring these great receivers. They are still
very popular in England and parts seem to be easy to get over there. Do a
WEB search and you will find many sites.
Good luck, Marshall (as soon as I repair the Sunair GSB900 I won on e-bay
I'll be looking for a 17 or 117 myself)
