[Racal] Panadaptor output from RA6790/GM

Dave,
I fitted a "First IF Sample" to my 6790/gm by putting a FET follower on to the
output of the first mixer. This gives a very low level output due to the mixer
loss, and for practical use will need to be fed into an appropriate broad band
low noise/low intermod amplifier stage. But the raw output on mine is enough
to use with an HP spectrum analyser. If you tap into the receiver further down
you will get a higher level, but it will be bandwidth limited by the roofing
filter(s). Also I know of no ready built or commercial panadptors that have a
40.455 MHz input, although the rather fine design by Bob Dildine (?) that was in
QEX a while back would be easily adaptable. The Racal US "panadptors" for the
RA*217 series have 2-3 MHz and wide and narrow 1.6 MHz inputs, but the wide 1.6
will only work with the RA6217A3 version. There are a few commercial with 21.4
MHz inputs that you could build an adaptor for.
As others have pointed out the connectors are called "SMB" and are available from
just about everywhere. I can send you a few if you give me your address.
