You can use a hair dryer (low level heat) to help soften up the slug.
Sometimes they get stuck on wax inside of the bore of the inductor.
They should be dry and clean but sometimes in the past they may have had
someone try to use lubricant to free them up. That may work fine the first
time but once it dries it gets sticky and can lock slugs in the rack.
All slug bores should be clean and dry before you thread slugs down or you
install the sliding racks on the variable reluctance tuning deck. The most
they may ever need is a tiny dusting of talc (baby powder) to help them
stay slippery.
