These are frequently available at Hamfests, and are inexpensive.  Good one coming up at Stone Mountain, GA (Lawrenceville) NE of Atlanta, 2, 3 & 4 November.

A good source of free de-soldering tools is your dentist. Often just one part of a hand tool becomes unusable so it is now useless too them.  It might take a while for the dental office a while to build up a collection.  Since they're made of Stainless Steel they don;t rust and are easy to clean.
