Just my 2 cents. I used a dilute dishwashing detergent, a tooth brush and an old plastic dishwashing pan. Maybe abt 5in deep. To dry a heavy-duty large garbage bag(home depot) and a tie wrap to seal around the hair dryer hose. I used my wife's old hair dryer. And poked a small hole in the bag so the hot air could escape. For extra warmth I threw an old blanket over the bag to hold in the heat.

I have found that simple green green color can stain certain types of aluminium. Not bad but a bit. I use siple geeen Aero - it is clear and designed to be used on aircraft and other aluminium toys.
