[R-390] R-390A intermittent loss of Diode Load voltage

Hi Jim...

The RF and Xtal modules have been gone over pretty thoroughly after not
having been used for a few decades. In fact, I bought it over 20 years ago
as a parts chassis and it was already pretty rough looking even then, but
after a lot of work, it's working really really well. I never thought to
restore it before because it appeared to be too far gone.

Checking the tube seating was my first thought too, but no cigar with that.
I haven't found a way to provoke the "symptoms", but I can sometimes correct
the symptoms by going from AGC to MGC and back, or by going up a few 1mc
bands and back, but that doesn't help too much because to me, the problem is
in the detector/audio chain and the related wiring and interconnections, and
parts external to the modules.

I'm assuming that a problem with an oscillator or in the RF circuits would
manifest as a drop in AGC voltage and the Carrier Level meter, but that's
not happening.

Of course, I could always be wrong...!!

Sorry for the long reply...
