Doug, do you really mean 50mA ??
Not 50µA ??
Meters needing 50mA to deflect full-scale are usually more sensitive ones
coupled with a parallel shunt resistor, inside or outside of the meter
case...
If such shunt resistor can be removed, the situation becomes more
manageable....
