[R-390] Last question of the day: The "X marks the spot" hold down thingy

I was a BT2(Boiler Tender) when I got out in September 1964. I had a friend who was a radioman we used to listen to baseball and football games. It was a nice respite from the Main Machinery spaces on the aircraft carrier Independence. Each space had two boilers, main engine, steam generator etc. They were hell holes. 4 years was enough fun for me.

There’s an old saying - you choose your rate - you choose your fate. I knew Radio Central was ALWAYS air conditioned due to the electronics and crypto.. beats being a snipe in a fire room where it was 130f..
We had R-390’s, R-1051’s.. both great receivers but the 390 for CW the 1051 for fleet broadcast..
