[R-390] Last question of the day: The "X marks the spot" hold down thingy

Over the octal crystal plug-in, some R390A's have a light aluminum X-shaped hold down
bracket which hooks to springs on its sides.

Okay, common sense tells me this not only is not necessary but is probably a pain in the
patuit to remove & replace.   But, I want to ask anyway:  has anyone tried something like
a capacitor hold down cap or ???
