This dovetails nicely with the "current' discussion on replacements for the oft-discussed BallasTube. Killing two birds with one stone, you could replace the 6BA6 with 12BA6 in the PTO and BFO tube sockets, and jump out the ballast tube connections. Then, remove all wiring from the ballast tube socket. Then, use the now-vacated socket for your new 6BN6 gated-beam discrininator-based product detector circuit.
