Yes, that's exactly what happened.  Not very careful design, to say the 
least.  Marantz often went through several generations of PC artwork, 
and still needed kludged-on parts to make them work properly.  (You'd 
think they would have been able to fix the issues by the second or third 
generation, but you'd be wrong....)
