That was my question too.   I remember reading that Fowler scrounged NOS
parts and made what they had to, but it's still just an R-390A,
right?     Plus if 5 were made and a couple were stored outside (maybe
this one, then restored), I'd put much more faith in the performance of
one that's lived a comfortable but somewhat longer live indoors.    If
the modules have been swapped out, then the only uniqueness is the
Fowler tag and mainframe wiring (and bragging rights).   It's one of
those things where the story behind the radio is the most interesting part!

I'll admit to contributing to the silence of the group, after finally
spending a couple of weeks going over the three I have that had all
developed minor problems, thanks the "Pearls" and accumulated knowledge,
all are running well but for I think one flaky crystal on a nonessential
band (27 Mhz !)      Really appreciate all the work that's been put into
documenting the repair and restoration process that has enabled many of
us to become self sufficient maintenance-wise.

I still need to pull my R-390 out and figure what's making the
tick-tick-tick sound...almost no doubt a leaky capacitor, but which one
will be the challenge ;-)
