Hi All,
I did a major update to my subject document and thought a better location
for it would be in the 'Tutorials' section of our R-390A disk.  The
original is pointed to from the 'Pearls of Wisdom' index. I added a lot of
information about the linearity mechanism in it.  You can find it in the

Larry, 

That is a great explanation of restoring the R-390A Cosmos PTO.  I have two
R-390 PTOs to look over inside.  I am wondering if the same approach applies,
or if there is something I need to do differently. 

Is Electric Radio the source of the R-390 CD?  If so, it looks like they are
at -0- right now.  There may be an opportunity to update it.  Then I will buy
one.

Have you noticed if replacing the ballast tube with a different one or a solid
state one affects the PTO end point?

I had the same problem that Paul had. The result was 2 ballast tubes
damaged.

Eventually I substituted the ballast with a solid state device that  is
sold on ebay and hope the problem is solved for a long time.

But the problem makes me wonder about why a military grade receiver that is
intended to be working on tracks and ships  is so fragile. In my experience
(short) this is the only tube that is so weak and has no  tolerance to
light impacts when the filament is still warm.
