[R-390] R390/R390A really "classified?"

Were the R390 and R390A really "classified," or is that a legend?  I have
read in the manuals that they need to be destroyed if they are left behind
so that they can't be used by the enemy, but I'd imagine that to be the case
with any usable equipment left behind.  I have also seen engineering papers
marked as "RESTRICTED" with the word crossed out.  If they were classified,
when did they become declassified?  Curious about that.

 

I'd also love to hear R390/A stories from those of you that used and/or
service them during wartime.  Again, curious.
