Thanks all, the weirdness comes with the lighting. Outdoors it looks great,
in the shop with fluorescents it looks great, in the lab with LED lighting
it just looks weird - dark and purplish. I guess I'll get used to it I
hope. The FP is of course done, and I have a CY-979A/URR case waiting for
it (Taffet Electronics) that's waiting for it that's been painted the same
color. Waiting for full cure before I touch it.
My goal with this radio was to make it look indistinguishable from original
paint. She operates perfectly now, and I wanted the appearance to be just
as good. I'm not sure if I succeeded. It's quite a bit different in color
than my 390A in Dark Machinery Gray...
By the way, the CY-979A was too big to alodyne as I usually do with
aluminum. For primer I bought Moeller yellow zinc chromate primer from West
Marine. That stuff sticks to anything I've used it on (aluminum,
stainless.) I'm very impressed with the product although it takes a long
time to dry and remains sticky so it has to be kept clean while it's drying.
I want to see a pic of Tisha's fabled radio! You out there Tisha?
John

John-
I think it is absolutely gorgeous. however lighting and monitor settings
vary....IF You like the colour leave it be! otherwise hmmmmm maybe
turquoise???
I have had 390 and 390A with variations of the shade of grey..really you can
only tell when they are next to something else that is really close.....
oh wait maybe Tisha's colour suggestion....
super job!!!
