If you're using a real paint gun, why not just get a pint of single stage enamel mixed up at your friendly neighborhood automotive paint store? I've had very good luck with PPG OMNI, and the Shopline variant (uses the same tint system) for this type of refinishing. They can throw a splooge of flattening agent in for a nice satin sheen too, although that is better to add when you mix to spray. I'd be interested to try that poly you're not having much luck with if you've completely given up on it. Regards, Chris Sent via wireless apparatus _._

Krylon Smoke Gray is damn close in color to FED-STD-26152. Although it's glossy not semi-gloss. Alas it's not Rustoleum: Krylon never matches the durability of Rustoleum. Rustoleum Dark Machine Gray is very nice, but it just seems too blue/purple and less green.I'm having trouble with the poly-urethane alkyd 26152 I bought through the spray gun without solvent pop. Stripped it three times so far and only once got as far as the lettering. It's way too thick for spraying out of the can and I've thinned it with Xylol, then Naptha both with the same result. Thinning is "not recommended" and I see why despite the claims from my dealer that it can be thinned.I may go gloss Krylon smoke gray instead, do the lettering, then put a semi-gloss clear over it just to be done with it.John-----Original Message-----From: r-390-bounces at mailman.qth.net <r-390-bounces at mailman.qth.net> On Behalf Of BarrySent: Thursday, June 20, 2019 12:11 PMTo: R390A <r-390 at mailman.qth.net>Subject: Re: [R-390] [R390]] Panel RefinishingSeveral years ago, I refinished an R390A front panel using (I think) #250 spray (matches the Collins S-Line front panel) from the below vendor.http://www.surplussales.com/Collins/CollMisc.htmlIt's darker than the standard gray found on most of these panels but it turned out quite nice. Thanks,Barry - N4BUQ> As John and Nick have said: Rustoleum Dark Machine Gray looks real good.> W.
