In the Air Force stationed at Castle AFB in the San Joaquin Valley, B-52 and KC-135 training base with an F-102 TAC Squadron attached.
My barracks room mate had gotten married and he and his wife had an apartment in Merced, CA.  He and his wife hosted a "moon landing" party.  A bunch of us watched the moon landing together on TV in their living room - drinking wine and cheering.
Pretty amazing considering the technology available at the time!
