Charles, I agree with all you wrote, but I still guess that there is more
chances to have the right global tempco by using a modern mica cap to
replace a defective vintage mica one.
The biggest part of the job here (temperature compensation, I mean) relies
on the 39pF ceramic cap used in parallel with the 200pF mica one.
And, OK, ultimately, we don't know how good it is.
But we can test both an original mica cap from a T501/502 and a modern
production one and compare the test results of the measured parameters
against temperature. Another interesting research project !
Not sure I will live long enough to do them all however...
