With the near impossibility of getting reasonable priced low frequency crystals you might want to consider the SSB adapter from Treetop circuits.  It uses the A's BFO but has all the modern circuity for fast attack AGC and such.
He is a Canadian ham that sells or ebay.  Besides the A, he has ones for the R390/URR, R392 and R388 models.
He has also developed one specifically for the SP 600.
Prices are a little over $100.
