[R-390] IF Transformer Question and New Intro

Thanks Jacques,

I plan on stagger tuning the IF deck once I get new cores. If I understand correctly, the IF slugs on the bottom get tweaked through the holes in the top slug? I've got a full suite of test equipment here I use for my engineering consulting business, so it shouldn't be too bad to do as long as the slugs can move. T503 is free and I peaked out the AGC voltage as per the manual.

My latest test equipment score is an Agilent 8644A signal generator I bought/rescued from the local scrapyard for metal value. It works fine. Believe it or not, it's bigger and heavier than the R390a! 😊

John

Hi John,
I cannot figure out how you managed to crack the slugs, but there is effectively two of those in each T501, 502 and 503.
Z503 however, have only one.
T501, 502 and 503 top and bottom cores are usually peaked to different frequencies during the IF alignment process.
