I have a R390A that I just purchased from someone who said they got it from an estate sales and said he knows nothing about radios just that it looked good in a wood cabinet. After getting a whip antenna and the connection to hook it up to the balanced connection and chasing all of the peanuts our of every nook and crannie before I even plugged it in, I finally started it up according to the manual. The last time I used on was in the U.S.ASA at Vint Hill Farm station and before that in An Khe V.N. Being a radio intercept operator (Ditty Bopper) I never worked on one and they were left On 24/7 from the time they were first installed until ASA shut down Morse operations. I got Cal tones every 100 through all the lower bands So I switched to AGC and was met with silence other than a little background static except for the very bottom 1 and 2 Meg AM radio range. I picked up all kinds of AM radio stations clear as a bell. Using my old 60's era headsets that I used for years on a monitor I got when I got out the Army. But past that all the way up to the 32 meg, nothing not even the time signals. Is there anything that someone who knows little about electronics can check before I take it to a radio shop or ship it to one of the Experts who work on these all the time. If I cannot drive it somewhere is the South Texas area, I cost about $100 each way o sent it almost anywhere. I have every manual I could find anywhere but you have to have some idea what all those Greek terms are. My wife already thinks I am crazy paying all this money that 50 years ago I left behind.
