I did the conversion 20 yrs ago and never put my R-390A strip back in the radio.  I need to do that to make sure it still works, but that R-390 IF strip sounds great.

For anyone wanting to convert an R390A to the much better-sounding
performance of an R725 (which is essentially an R390A with an R390 IF
strip), or, alternatively, anyone who needs a replacement IF strip for
an R390/URR, there is an  R390 IF strip currently posted on ebay.  It is
(at the moment) very reasonably priced (that may change as bids accumulate):

I have no connection to, or knowledge of, this seller.

It is listed as "for parts or not working," but reading the listing text
it looks more like it's untested.  It looks very nice, both above and
below deck.

There has been lots of discussion here of the details of making this
conversion, some of it quite recent (December 2017).  For those who are
not familiar with the process, please note that it is *not* a simple
plug-and-play proposition; but it is not terribly difficult either, for
folks who know which end of a soldering iron to grab.

Best regards,

Charles
