Jim, this reminds me of an experience with a tech from the cable company. My
cable box gave out. I tried the usual reboot, power-cycle, unplug AC cord
stuff before calling for service. The tech arrived and I told him what I had
already tried. He asked if I actually unplugged the power cord or used the
front panel power switch. I said I actually unplugged the power cord. He
asked, "Both ends?" I asked why I needed to do that. He said that the cord
has to be unplugged at both ends so the electricity can run out. Unplugging
one end keeps the electricity in the cord, much like the water stays in your
garden hose if you only disconnect one end of it. He gets paid to do this
stuff.
