Something odd? You mean $40 shipping for the 390A to the USA?
Not to mention a 'new' Icom 7800 for $113.50........

To say the least.
I personally know where 4 of the five produced are. Maybe the missing one is in Spain, I don't know.
No serial number mentioned.
I'll hold off commenting for now...

So I know a little about the Fowler builds during the Reagan
administration. I believe Fowler was in Port Jervis, NY. I just don't
understand where they got parts like the PTO and the mechanical filters.
They couldn't have made them from scratch---any history here?

Mechanical filters were manufactured by Dittmore-Freimuth, Cosmos Industries built the PTO's. Fowler actually manufactured the various modules, IF decks, etc. It was a cluster from the very beginning, Avondale Shipyards put out bids based on old requirements for the R-390A's. Interesting, as there were still R-390A's in the supply chain, so wires got crossed, Fowler built five of them with a 1984 contract and the rest is history. This was covered in Electric Radio Magazine No. 71 March, 1995 and a follow-up article in No. 78 October 1995. You can obtain these as back issues here:
