Frank, the easiest way is not always the best if you like working on radios. I'm a victim of that. I first had to have a 390a which was great. Then I modified a spare audio chassis ala Kleronomos which was great. Then I found a 390 i.f. chassis that I adapted ala Marcotte , also great but a lot of work, especially the cable adapters since I wanted a reversible installation. Now I already had "perfection" when I encountered a 390 at a swap meet. It came home with me with a few of its own problems that I fixed. The 390 is the one I mostly turn on because it's parked in the right place. It has a few occasional quirks, probably mostly dirty switches that seem to clear up after operating a bit. About the only significant addition to the 390 is a side cooling fan ala Morgan.
