The majority of hams are well-meaning folks but not vintage equipment
enthusiasts. They use words like "mint" and "new in the box" casually, not
literally. To us, those terms have serious meanings and serious
consequences to price. They aren't trying to mislead anyone, just unaware
of how seriously many enthusiasts/fanatics take descriptions.
The description in this ad is ambiguous and the photos are of two different
receivers. What they evidently have is an EAC that someone says was never
put into military service. And Rick Mish went through it at some time. So
I'm guessing a nice EAC that some ham used and took care of - to a
non-enthusiast it looks in "new-out-of-the-box" condition. And it might
look really great without literally being "new-out-of-the-box". Here's
hoping someone attends and gets a great bargain on a rcvr that really has
never been out of the box....
Q: What's the difference between a used car salesman and a ham radio
salesman?
A: The used car salesman knows when he's lying to you...

**In NC, used car salesmen must have a state license - to qualify, you must
have not been convicted of auto-related fraud...recently. But they'll take
your word for it.
