Dana, you wrote the following.
I had my first introduction to R 390's as a member of a Mobile Comm
Squadron where we had a rack of them and a BC 610 transmitter for RTTY
purposes, mounted in a hut on the back of a deuce and a half truck.
Regards, Dana K1RQ Ellenton, FL.
This was the original design for the receivers.
Every thing else we used the receivers for was just added extras.
The R90's were reduced to R390A's mechanically filtered and
pressed into intercept use.
You could pull the hut off the truck and repurpose the truck.
You could move the equipment out of the hut into a building.
Mostly things were left in the hut and the RTTY went inside.
Punch tape took traffic out to the shelter for transmit and
paper can in from the receive side. Some times tape was run on receive.
You could put that original punch tape into a reader and load a mimeograph
stencil into the RTTY machine and make up a letter perfect stencil for a page of orders.
