<Snipped for brevity>

1957 Madrid, Spain, I was 15 years old. My Dad brought home a Hammarlund SP-200
variant (AACS version), that tuned from 300 kc to 10 mc. He was a teletype
crypto tech stationed at Torrejon AFB near Madrid. It was destined for the base
dump, it needed three tubes. Put up (with help) 125 ft. longwire. The bands
were much quieter back then, and mw broadcasts from New York and Philadelphia
came in strong at night. I left it behind in 1960 when we returned to the
States with a friend. I was hooked from that point on.
