​ Thanks to you all for the  suggestions...... I have made  a preliminary
change  by swapping over slugs  from the adjoining rack... they  are
labeled  Collins with
the ID  526 - 5009      13,  and below is   SM - C - 249245, and below
that  again is 6729.
They OK in their original rack  but unfortunately, only produced identical
setting to those installed  in the  4 to 8 MHz rack which were unmarked .
Anyway the  data  above   rather academic  so will pursue  further....
maybe have to live with it, but  even with  replacement  coil cans. results
identical.
A WIP  and  any revelations to follow.
