Speaking of tomes, since the people in this group are definitely interested in vacuum tube equipment, you might really appreciate another great book:
"Hollow-State Design (mostly for the Radio Amateur)” This is the only new book, published 2 years ago, about vacuum tube technology specifically targeted to amateurs and communication equipment enthusiasts.

One of the problems I had when working with classic tube equipment is that I had been working with solid state equipment for the last 30 years and forgot most of what i barely knew about tubes. So when I abandoned solid-state for a renewed interest in tube gear (I can finally work on electronic equipment again!!), I could not find any good books. The info on the internet is mostly totally boring or wrong, or geared in a weirdly way to guitar amp guys.

Anyway, so being a technical writer, I spent many years working to revive all the good stuff about vacuum tubes design, theory, history, and brought it up to date, make it readable, prototyped a zillion circuits, and documented it. The results were worth while for me.
I can now take any (well, almost any) vacuum tube circuit, including the R390 and figure out how the circuit should work, what improvements, if any, can be made, and troubleshoot it.

Since I did all this work, I took the liberty of giving vacuum tubes a better name since part of the reason transistors took over was they had a much cooler name. Thus the “thermatron”. Its a long story.
Contents:
1. Introduction
2. Why Build with Thermatrons
3. Inside the Thermatron
4. Numbering Systems, Bases, Bulbs
5. Thermatron Characteristics
6. Keeping the Filaments Lit
7. Thermatron Homebrew Techniques
8. Designing with Triodes
9. Designing with Pentodes
10. Designing Thermatron Oscillators
11. So Many Thermatrons, So Little Time
12. Thermatron Experimentation

You can read more about it here. It is in the second edition.

I would love to read some feedback on it from this group, I am always updating and hopefully improving it.
Enjoy,
